Next up in our ‘Take 5 with..’ feature is Pip’s Pet Pantry who produce premium quality nutritional dog food suitable for working & pet dogs. with locally sourced ingredients.
Tell us a little about you and your business?
I’m Pip! Born in Leicestershire – I moved up to Lancashire to set up home with my now husband shortly after finishing my Agri-Business degree at Harper Adams.
In 2014 I started working for a local family business who contract manufacture dry pet food for some of the leading brands on the market. During my time there I learnt how much of an impact the quality of the raw material had on the performance of our pets, we invest so much time into our dogs (especially in training working dogs) and so often overlook the quality of these raw materials especially the fresh meat.
In 2016 whilst pregnant with my first child I started Pip’s Pet Pantry which I run from home around my young family. Pip’s Pet Pantry delivers premium quality dry pet food to your door within 48 hours, I ensure that the best raw materials are used by purchasing them from the source and conduct strict quality checks on the ingredients as they arrive to site. This is particularly important with some of my fresh meats which are delivered direct from the salmon farms in Scotland 350 miles away.
Our 48 hour delivery guarantee is a competitive service and to compete with the multinationals I provide a tailored nutrition service to each of my customers in order to supply a food which meets the individual nutritional needs of their pet or to help match a branded equivalent. I encourage all pets to try my food first, with the free samples to ensure my recommended foods is the perfect fit.
With your business – Who, What or Where inspires you?
As cheesy as it may sound – my main drivers with the business are my kids. I absolutely need Pip’s Pet Pantry to keep me sane and I think it’s incredibly important to keep something for yourself, especially when you have young children or care for others.
What does a typical day look like?
A typical day for us would start by getting everyone up, dressed & outside to feed, water & check the horses sheep & chickens before coming in and having breakfast ourselves. This is followed by a dog walk which always takes a VERY long time due to the ride on tractors or other kids paraphernalia we have in tow and of course the odd tantrum.
11.30ish is nap time for my youngest 2 kids which gives me an opportunity to process any orders before the DPD cut off for next day delivery.
Afternoons (especially during lockdown) are spent doing odd jobs (of which there are plenty) around our small holding fixing, cleaning, sorting or in the garden planting or playing before animal checks & feeds again before dinner, bath & bed for the littlest ones!
I do the majority of my administrative work and complete any last minute orders in the evenings long after the children and my husband are getting their beauty sleep.
What’s next for Pip’s Pet Pantry?
My product is fantastic and feeds out extremely well, however it is difficult to build a customer base online against other brands with bigger marketing budgets.
I’d absolutely love to get out to some shows & events over the next 12-18 months to physically show everyone how great the product is. I also love talking to people face to face about Pip’s Pet Pantry, helping them with any feeding issues they may be having with their current foods and advising them on the most suitable Pip’s Pet Pantry recipe.
Spreading Positivity During Lockdown – What’s your top tip?
It’s not forever & think of the pure joy when this is all behind us and we can hug our loved ones again! For me and many others I’m sure, it’s forced me to slow down and really take stock of what matters to me. It’s also reminded me just how lucky I am to live rurally and that my family and I have our health. I’m embarrassed I needed a reminder, but don’t we all take things for granted all too often!

LCC Founder & Creative Director
Hello and welcome to the LCC. I'm a rural-loving mum (of the horse, human and dog variety!) living in Cheshire in the North West of England. For as long as I can remember I have always had a fascination with the great outdoors. Eager to understand the 'how' and the 'why' of the world around us. I created this platform where we can connect and share our love of the the countryside and rural life.
