Take 5 with… 3 Donkeys Clothing

Next in our ‘Take 5 with..’ series are 3 Donkeys clothing, a family run business based in Devon producing hard-wearing, protective ladies coveralls for every type of outdoor work and leisure activity in the most sustainable and eco-friendly way they can.

Tell us a little about you and your business?

I am Amanda and I am both owner and designer at 3Donkeys®. I have designed and registered the only 2into1 Ladies coverall which consist of a jacket and trouser which join at the waist with a full length heavy duty zip, making it much easier to remove in a hurry. They can also be worn independently making the coverall more versatile that the standard all-in-one. All of our coveralls are proudly made in Britain and all of our packaging is either recyclable, reusable or repurposable.

With your business -Who, what or where inspires you?

There are so many people both famous and not who inspire me constantly. I am in awe of anyone who has had an idea and taken the risk to ‘do something about it’, defying the ‘fear of failure’ and take strength from that. My children also inspire me ‘to do better’, as I want to show them that even if you are not from a business background, anything can be possible if you have the passion to accept help and advice where needed but above all never accept No as an answer.

What does a typical day look like?

At the moment a typical day involves the usual mix of business and family,I have 5 children (ages ranging from 6-18) and the daily school runs have been replaced with the now daily ‘Homeschooling’ sessions. With 6year old twins this can be somewhat challenging but necessary during this time (I certainly have a whole new level of respect for teachers!). We have been able to stay open for business and I have been humbled by the support of our customers and followers. So I find myself darting from my office indoors to my garage (or 3DHQ) to pack and process orders for shipping. As we have an array of animals here Horses, Donkeys, Alpacas, Goats, Daisy the cow, Pigs and chickens to look after (we also have 3 dogs and one cat called ME), their daily routine has not changed, however we have given a home to 4 lambs who the children are rearing (another activity for homeschooling). I am also using this time to catch up on podcasts and articles, in the hope that I can improve my marketing and business know how.

What’s next for 3 Donkeys Clothing?

We have been incredibly fortunate to be invited back to Burghley Horse Trials for the second time this year (I am keeping everything crossed that I still goes ahead) and there are plans for some new products to add to our small capsule apparel collection. As we are only into our second year, my main aim is to continue growing and increasing the exposure for 3 Donkeys® and with the help of lovely ladies like yourselves, show more women that there is a real alternative to keeping clothes clean without compromising on function and style.

Spreading Positivity during lockdown – Whats your top tip?

Treat everyday like this is the ‘New Normal’, do not focus on how it was because I believe that things will be different going forward and we need to learn to embrace and not fear what is to come. Help and support each other where we can but above all just ‘be there’.

Hello and welcome to the LCC. I'm a rural-loving mum (of the horse, human and dog variety!) living in Cheshire in the North West of England.  For as long as I can remember I have always had a fascination with the great outdoors. Eager to understand the 'how' and the 'why' of the world around us. I created this platform where we can connect and share our love of the the countryside and rural life.
