Meet Becky our South West Regional Reporter…
Tell us a little bit about yourself, where you live and why you love it.
Hello there, I’m Becky Wren also known as Country Bumpkin Chic – a blog I set up over 10 years ago to share my west country tales.
By day I work in Internal Communications for Screwfix & at all other times you’ll usually find me on horseback in the beautiful Dorset countryside or paddling down the River Brit or along the Jurassic Coast on my stand up paddleboard.
Living in rural Dorset. I get to enjoy the best of both worlds – the beautiful countryside of west Dorset with the coast only a 20 minute drive away – I feel very lucky.
What are some of the favourite places in your region? You favourite days out, places to eat…anything goes!
I’m very lucky to be able to ride my horses in the beautiful Dorset countryside & love seeing the seasons change. On a good day I can spot Hardy’s Monument from horseback which is a great dog walking spot.
My favourite places to visit include the beaches in Weymouth. As a keen paddleboarder I love to escape the hustle & bustle of the world for a few hours. There are lots of lovely spots around Weymouth & Portland to paddle & you’re never too far away from a good café to meet friends. My favourites include Café Oasis & Billy Winters. I’m also a huge seafood fan & love Rockfish who are based on Weymouth seafront & serve the freshest fish around.
Inland Sculpture by the Lakes just outside Dorchester is Dorset’s only sculpture park & makes for a great afternoon out with plenty of photo opportunities. And if you’re in Dorset’s county town – Dorchester Vinny at Six is my go-to restaurant & serve the most decadent cocktails.
What inspired you to become a Regional Reporter for the LCC?
I was looking to get involved in a community outside of my blog, as blogging by yourself can be a bit lonely. The LCC community of reporters are wonderful & so supportive – we all have a lot in common, plus it’s great to learn about the other regions.
Tell us about what hobbies you have and how you like to spend your free time.
I’m an amateur eventer with two lovely Irish Sport Horses Leo & Barley, so most weekends we’ll be out & about competing in the west country at some wonderful locations. I’ve been very lucky to have competed at some amazing locations including Lulworth Castle & Longleat.
When I’m not riding I like to keep fit, & you’ll either find me paddle boarding along the Jurassic Coast, or keeping in shape through Pilates or Yoga. And I’ve recently taken up jump rope which is a little bit addictive.
During lockdown I re-discovered my inner creativity & have been making candles & bath melts for myself & friends which has been really therapeutic.
Do you have any top tips for juggling living and working at home?
I try & make sure I do some exercise before I start work, whether that’s an online Yoga or Fitness session from YouTube, going for a walk across the fields or turning the horses out – I find it helps put me in a good mood for the day.
I also make sure I take breaks away from my screen whether to make a quick drink, leave a voice note for one of my friends or get outside for a few minutes. Working from home is certainly more intense than being in the office & you need to make sure you’re kind to your

LCC Founder & Creative Director
Hello and welcome to the LCC. I'm a rural-loving mum (of the horse, human and dog variety!) living in Cheshire in the North West of England. For as long as I can remember I have always had a fascination with the great outdoors. Eager to understand the 'how' and the 'why' of the world around us. I created this platform where we can connect and share our love of the the countryside and rural life.
