Kentish Treasure in Lockdown

Lockdown 2.0.  It sounds like some kind of security update that you need to download but alas, we all know what it is.  As I write this I hope you are safe and well, navigating your own path through the maze of rules and requests placed upon us once again.  Here in my little corner of Kent it feels very much like business as usual.  The school runs are still happening, the weekly shop still needs to be collected, the tractors are out in the fields sowing and the fields are greening up with the winter crops.

On my drive to school this morning I realised how lucky I am to still be driving down these rural roads and lanes; dodging pheasants, stopping for tractors and watching horses and riders plod across the fields.  Not only that, when I go to get my weekly shop, my local shops are still there, it may be click and collect for some, but they are still available.  With so many out there facing business closures, furlough and much more I thought I would share a short list of Kent businesses I have used over lockdown and a couple of treasures I found last lockdown.  Our corner of Kent often gets overlooked so I hope this will be useful for Kentish readers in the locality and even better most are online and still posting out.

Dare I say it, you may even start your Christmas shopping!

Barkened – Deal, ‘Goods for people, dogs and homes!’

C & M Hayes Deal, Dover, Folkestone & Sandwich, Veggie and fruit box delivery including many other store cupboard items.

Chapel Down Wines – Online, I highly recommend the English Rose 2019 and their pink gin is good too.

Deal Book Shop Deal, beyond helpful and perfect if need a read or gift in lockdown.  Checkout your local bookshop and support them, whilst they may be closed many are still operating behind the scenes.

Dunlin Diver Deal, gorgeous items including Join candles, ceramics, Falconware, textiles and prints.

Gibsons Farmshop Wingham, has an amazing deli and the best coffee when doing your weekly shop!

Gilt & Flint Online – pub in a box, need I say more! Go and try it, you will not be disappointed.

Hog and Bean Deal, takeaway food and drink, inc, roast in a box!

Kent Crisps Online, yummy flavours show casing local products – Oyster & vinegar is a favourite as they taste like fish & chips!

Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co. Online, lots of coffee and tea blends and a loyalty scheme.

Knoops Rye and Online, creamy tasty hot chocolate.

New Street Designs Online but based in Deal, personalised gifts for dogs and owners! The Christmas box looks awesome and currently they are offering free delivery on Christmas products.

Perry Court Farmshop Wye, amazing farm produce and you can go and see Elvis and Murphy the donkeys, they have their own Insta account here.

Romney Marsh Wools Online, and more than just wool. The skincare products are beautiful, I use the hand and body lotion, gentle enough to use even on a sensitive skin.

Simply Ice Cream Ashford, local delivery service and in most Farm Shops and local Co-Op stores. The brown bread ice cream is delicious!

Tamarisk Deal and online, boutique clothing and jewelry with live Facebook events. The owner Emma is lovely and does her best to help in any situation.

The Drill Hall Sandwich, Pizza and takeaway food inc. breakfast!

Your Little Green Shop Deal, amazing refills, flour, pulses, rice and amazing fresh peanut butter

I always enjoy supporting local, even more so now and I hope you find some Kentish treasure from here in the garden of England that will put a smile on your face.  For further ideas take a look at Produced in Kent site by clicking here and the hashtag #helpkentbuylocal
