In Season – October

Autumn – In Season Fruit & Vegetables

There are pumpkins galore this time of year but here’s our handy guide to the other seasonal produce available this month:

Hopefully, you can create some culinary masterpieces using fresh, local, in-season produce!

In The Garden – October

Jobs this month:

Broad Beans

For a crop from June onwards next year, you can sow an ‘early’ variety

Peas

Pick a sheltered spot for your chosen hardy variety

Garlic

Garlic cloves can be sown this month (as long as the ground isn’t waterlogged) as they can survive the cold

Rhubarb

As long as your soil isn’t waterlogged, Rhubarb can tolerate the cold and in October they are entering their dormant stage so now is a good time to plant new sets to divide old crowns.

LCC Founder & Creative Director

Hello and welcome to the LCC. I'm a rural-loving mum (of the horse, human and dog variety!) living in Cheshire in the North West of England.  For as long as I can remember I have always had a fascination with the great outdoors. Eager to understand the 'how' and the 'why' of the world around us. I created this platform where we can connect and share our love of the the countryside and rural life.
